Freshman Cross Country Runner, Chris Humetewa finished his regular season off in a big way, gaining a spot to compete at the NAIA National Meet in Washington. This past weekend, the Continental Athletic Conference hosted its conference meet at Haskell Indian Nations University cross country course (Billy Mills Course). Hosting only a few full teams and 35 overall individual runners, the CAC announced it would guarantee the top two finishers a bid to the NAIA National meet. With that in mind, it was pace yourself and get done with the 8k as fast as possible. With their first appearance in the conference as new members, Florida College and Florida National University proved to be tough competitors.
Florida College junior Jay Cook was the top runner and meet's Most Outstanding Runner award recipient. He crossed the finish line after completing the 8-kilometer course in 26:23.1 – 24 seconds ahead of Haskell Indian Nations freshman Chris Humetewa, who finished second in 26:47.2. Florida College uttimately took the conference championship title but for Haskell, having Freshman runner, Chris Humetewa cross the finish line after battling for the placement was the utmost victory of the day!
As CAC champions, Florida College will represent the conference at the NAIA national championship meet November 19 at Vancouver, Washington.
