Haskell Volleyball Looks to Bounce Back Against Graceland

LAWRENCE, Kan. — After a difficult opening two weekends, Haskell Indian Nations University volleyball returns to the Coffin Sports Complex Tuesday night looking for a fresh start against Graceland University.

The Indians enter the matchup with a 1-7 record after eight matches to begin the 2026 season. The early schedule has given Haskell plenty of opportunities to compete against different styles of play while a roster featuring returning veterans and new faces continues to develop.

Haskell's lone win so far came this past weekend against Boyce College in a four-set match, while the Indians have faced several challenging opponents during the first two weeks of the season.

Despite the early record, there are reasons for optimism. Haskell returns several important contributors from last season, including outside hitter Tressa Jim and libero Alaina Dugi. As well as Mya Dalgai, who was named this week's Continental Athletic Conference Attacker of the week hitting a .420% and tallying in 43 kills.

The Indians also brought in six incoming recruits and four transfers during the offseason, adding new depth to a team that is still working to establish chemistry on the court.

Tuesday's matchup with Graceland (0-2) provides Haskell with its first opportunity to play at home after the opening stretch of the season. The varsity match is scheduled for 7 p.m., with Graceland's junior varsity teams playing at 3 and 5 p.m.

For Haskell students, the match is also an opportunity to come together and support the Indians during an important part of the early season. With conference play and a long schedule still ahead, there is plenty of time for Haskell to build momentum.

Following Tuesday's match, the Indians will travel to Stephens College on Wednesday before returning to Coffin Sports Complex for the Haskell Invitational on Sept. 4-5.

Cross Country Opens Season at Rim Rock Farm

Haskell cross country will also be competing in Lawrence this weekend.

The Indians are scheduled to open their 2026 season Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Bob Timmons Classic at Rim Rock Farm, hosted by the University of Kansas. Haskell's men's team is scheduled to compete in the 6K at 9 a.m., followed by the women's 6K at 9:45 a.m.

The meet will bring several collegiate programs to one of the area's best-known cross-country courses. Haskell has competed at the event in previous seasons, making Saturday's meet a familiar start to the fall campaign.

The cross-country season gives Haskell another opportunity to represent the university in front of the Lawrence community while volleyball works to turn its early-season experience into momentum.

For Haskell students and supporters, it will be a busy week of athletics — beginning at Coffin Sports Complex Tuesday night and continuing on the trails at Rim Rock Farm Saturday morning.
