William Woods Volleyball Tournament Recap

Haskell Volleyball Opens Season with Busy Weekend at William Woods Tournament

FULTON, Mo. – The Haskell volleyball team opened its 2025 season with four matches at the William Woods Tournament, highlighted by a straight-set victory over Justice University.

Friday, Aug. 22

  • William Woods 3, Haskell 1
Haskell opened the tournament against host William Woods, falling in four sets (16–25, 21–25, 26–24, 20–25). Haskell fought back to take set three behind Tressa Jim's 13 kills and Aniah Smith's efficient .412 hitting. Alaina Dugi anchored the defense with 28 digs, while Kayelani Maiava and Mya Dalgai added a combined 12 kills.

  • Evangel 3, Haskell 0
In the second match of the day, Evangel controlled the first and third sets, winning 25–5, 25–22, 25–12. Dalgai led the way with 6 kills and a service ace, while Dugi collected 14 digs in the back row.

Saturday, Aug. 23

  • Haskell 3, Justice University 0
Haskell picked up their first win of the season in convincing fashion, sweeping Justice University (25–18, 25–17, 25–20). Balanced scoring and aggressive serving set the tone early. Maiava and Dalgai each notched multiple kills to lead the offense, while Dugi again steadied the defense with double-digit digs. The win moved Haskell to 1–2 on the weekend.

  • Graceland 3, Haskell 1
Haskell closed the tournament with a tight four-set battle against Graceland (28–26, 27–29, 18–25, 16–25). The Indians stole set one in extra points and nearly took set two before falling late. Maiava posted 13 kills and 18 digs, while Dalgai added 10 kills and 3 blocks. Dugi chipped in 18 digs to cap her strong weekend.

Weekend Recap
Haskell finished the weekend 1–3 but showed resilience in extended rallies and late-set situations. Standout performances included Maiava's all-around play, Dalgai's efficiency at the net, Jim's offensive spark, and Dugi's defensive consistency. Haskell will look to build on their first win as they continue non-conference play.
