York Falls to Haskell Men's Basketball

Three players scored in double figures to lead the Fightin' Indians to their fourth win of the season on their home court, beating York University 80-65 in a non-conference men's basketball game, Thursday evening at Coffin Sports Complex, in Lawrence, KS.

York and Haskell kept the score close to start out the first half, but a steal by York's Rhino Hernandez lead to a different offensive pace for the Panthers leading to six consecutive points to surge ahead from the Fightin' Indians, after a tight point for point score of 10-10. with roughly13 minutes remaining. The Fighting Indians fought their way back to end the first half with a tied score of 31-31. 

Neither team was able to create much distance in the second quarter. York took its largest lead at 49-42 over Haskell, with a layup made by Brent, Clark after taking a single free throw for a flop call against Haskell guard, Bryan Strom with 13:03 remaining. The layup would put the Panthers at their largest lead in the second. 

Haskell's offense got going in the second half, and after a string of made baskets, the Panthers were forced to take a timeout with 4:45 remaining after Brent Clark's shot decreased the ten point deficit for the Panthers,  61-69.

Shots for the Panthers only continued to fall in the second half as Haskell shot 54.8% in the field while they shot at 30.3%, to end with a final score of 65-80. 

Tate' Bear finished with 19 points and 6 rebounds, as the leading scorer for the Fightin' Indians. Bansi King and Trey Gaines, followed closely finishing with 16 and 13 points, resepctively.  Isaiah Williams and Masen Spoonhunter both added 9 to push Haskell forward. 

Brent Clark led the Panthers in scoring with 26 and Rhino Hernandez finished with 12. 

Haskell shot 43.1% (31-72) from the floor, were 7-22 (31.8%) from the three-point line and made 11-14 (78.6%) free throws. York shot 36.4% (24-66) from the floor, made 2-16 (12.5%) treys and were 15-19 (78.9%) from the free throw line. 

Haskell will play next week against Tabor College on Monday, Dec. 5th, at 7:00 PM in Salina, KS.
