During the COVID-19 pandemic, the NAIA has began a student athlete wellness campaign, featuring student athletes at various NAIA institutions. The campaign highlights student athletes' and how they have combat issues throughout the pandemic as well as care for their mind, body and character as an athlete.
For the segment, Body, Haskell Women's Cross Country's, Alexandra Holder was asked a serious of questions and answered with the following:
1. Our coaches have always insured that as runners we are educated on our health. they take the time to teach us about the importance of stretching and eating healthy. This way we are not only better at preforming but taking care of ourselves as well.
2. When the virus first took off as Lakotas we were told to drink a certain tea that would help boost our immunity. Since everything has been happening I have made sure to consume more immune boosting foods such as: local honey, teas, and berries.
3. When our athletes get injured we are taken care of. Our coaches make customized workouts that help to heal our injures as well as working on making us stronger.
4. I did not grow up running, I started running when I was in high school. I felt as if I was less experienced than other runners. With the help of my teammates and coaches here at Haskell they have boosted my running confidence and helped me to work harder each day.
5. I have never had a serious injury that has prevented me from running for an extended period of time but, just knowing that you have awesome teammates and coaches who are there with you every step of the way helps. That treating yourself and your body with kindness will help you to heal. That your mind is a power thing, thinking positively will help you to overcome your injury faster and to heal completely.
