Track and Field competes at Bob Timmons Challenge

LAWRENCE, Kan.- The Haskell Men's Track & Field team started their inaugural season as a member of the American Midwest Conference Saturday at the Bob Timmons Challenge hosted by the University of Kansas. 

The Indian's were led by Sophomore sprinter Eric Brazille breaking both the 60m (7.18) and 200m (23.79) records. Not to be out done, two first year athletes Fr Michael Smith and So Transfer Charles Mason both set new school records on Saturday. Michael with a leap of 18'6" (5.54m) in the long jump and Charles with a throw of 45'4.5" (13.83m) in the shotput. Other notable performances were Fr Burton Miner III placing 4th in the Mile with a time of 4:40.82 and So Andrew Stump with a time of 10:05.49 in 3000m which was good enough for 10th place.

The Haskell Women's Track & Field team started the 2023-2024 season as a member of the American Midwest Conference at the University of Kansas Bob Timmons Challenge on Saturday as well. 

Leading the way for the Women was Jr Tiajhae (TJ) Nez finishing in 5th behind only runners from NCAA Division 1 school in a time of 5:28.79. Also turning in an outstanding performance for the ladies was Jr Aysa Benally with a new school record in the 60m of 8.28. Also, turning noteworthy performances on Saturday was So Therann Moore and Jr Jayme Morris both setting new personal best records. Jayme placed 5th in the 800m (2:49.73) and Therann finished 10th place in the shot put with a throw of 36'4" (11.07m).

The Haskell Track and Field Mens and Womens will return to action on the 20th of January in Topeka, KS for the Washburn Rustbuster.
